What do you do when you see the rule of law fail? Jesselyn Radack was a legal ethics advisor for the US Justice Department until she blew the whistle on it and quit.

Jesselyn Radack is now the expert defense attorney for whistleblowers like Thomas Drake, John Kiriakou and Edward Snowden. In this interview with Rico Brouwer she explains how the legal system is being turned against truthtelling and how to defend against that in both a courtroom and in the court of public opinion.

They discuss the situation of Julian Assange, Chelsea Manning and Edward Snowden and talk about the book ‘permanent record’ Snowden just published which release caused the CIA and NSA to file a lawsuit and try block its proceeds from reaching him. Radack: ‘..the unintended consequence is, it has gone on to suddenly propel his book to be number one on the Amazon bestseller list .. the government doesn’t want you to buy this book or him to get any kind of benefit from the book. To me, you couldn’t get a better endorsement from the government for why you should buy and read that particular book’.

Verdediging van Klokkenluiders - Jesselyn radack and Rico Brouwer

Wat doe je als je de rechtsstaat stuk ziet gaan? Jesselyn Radack was juridisch ethisch adviseur voor het Amerikaanse ministerie van justitie tot ze er de klok over luidde en weg ging.

Jesselyn Radack werkt sindsdien als advocaat voor klokkenluiders zoals Thomas Drake, John Kiriakou en Edward Snowden. In dit Engels gesproken interview met Rico Brouwer legt ze uit hoe het rechtssysteem wordt ingezet tegen het aan het licht brengen van misstanden en hoe iemand zich daartegen kan verweren in zowel de rechtszaal als in de rechtbank van de publieke opinie.

Ze bespreken de situatie van Julian Assange, Chelsea Manning en Edward Snowden en praten over het boek ‘permanent record’ dat Snowden zojuist heeft gepubliceerd. De CIA en NSA hebben inmiddels een rechtszaak aangespannen en proberen te voorkomen dat de opbrengsten hem kunnen bereiken. Radack: '... het onbedoelde gevolg daarvan is dat het zijn boek plotseling naar nummer één op de bestsellerlijst van Amazon stuwt ... de regering wil niet dat je dit boek koopt en wil voorkomen dat hij er geld mee verdient. Volgens mij is dat de beste aanbeveling van de overheid die hij zich kon wensen waarom je dat specifieke boek nu juist wel zou moeten kopen en lezen '.
