The Lack of Scientific Freedom - Conference Report (English, ondertiteld)

Follow the Science visited a conference called “Lack of Scientific Freedom; Cause Consequences and Cures” in Copenhagen oct. 24 and 25 2022. What we heard there blew our mind: From scientists receiving death threats to scientists being attacked, fired and censored. It became quintessential when we ourselves came under attack by the organisers using the samen tools on preventing us from publishing as they discussed during the sessions. What’s going on?

Whistle-blower on the Case of Julian Assange - United Nations Special Rapporteur on torture Nils Melzer

“By and large the system functions or so I thought. But when I started scratching the surface of this case, That to me was profoundly shocking: to see how much dirt was coming to the surface”.

Nils Melzer in 2016 was appointed as the Special Rapporteur on Torture for the United nations. In 2019 he assessed that Julian Assange showed all signs of being a victim of psychological torture. Shortly after Melzer started his investigation, Assange was removed from the Ecuadorian Embassy in London and transferred to Belmarsh prison where he remains to this day fighting extradition to the United States.

Bailey Lamon and Rico Brouwer talk to Melzer in this 90 minute interview for a chapter in their own upcoming book; ‘the Whistleblowers Book of Courage’. How can it be that the United Nations rapporteur on torture, appointed by the countries of the world to report on torture is now considered a whistle-blower for just doing his job?

Trump, Assange and the rule of law - Professor Alfred de Zayas

Professor of international law and human right expert Alfred de Zayas comments on the media censorship happening right now in the US. It's not just freedom of speech that's been taken away, but also the right to be informed. In this interview we discuss last weeks verdict in the extradition case of Julian Assange, and the judge’s denial of bail. Not just free speech is broken; the rule of law itself appears broken both in the US and UK. In the second half we discuss the Netherlands new rules for returning citizens abroad, effectively exiling them due to corona policies.
